“Razor’s Edge” – Sunlight breaking by passing storm clouds in distant Alaskan wilderness. After 2 bush flights and 4 days of path-considerably less mountaineering, I arrived at one of the most impressive places I have ever viewed. [OC][1600×1067] @maxfosterphotography : EarthPorn

In lookup of jagged peaks and expansive wilderness, two close friends and I just lately embarked on a 10 working day backcountry mountaineering & packrafting journey deep in the Brooks Range of Alaska. This was my 1st time to Alaska, and it vastly exceeded all my anticipations.  Gates of the Arctic is almost the dimensions of Switzerland and has no streets, trails or infrastructure. The only way into the park is to hike (if you have 30+ days this would be a good choice) or to fly in on a float aircraft. The park is situated completely above the Arctic Circle in the Brooks Selection, so times have been quite extended although we have been there. Twilight lasted most of the evening, so we under no circumstances even needed headlamps. We visited at the peak of fall coloration, and had been rewarded with an explosion of purple, yellow, orange and inexperienced foliage. This is a tough region to take a look at, with some of the most grueling bushwacking I have had to do. Tussocks with deep holes combined with thick dwarf birch and alder trees make for pretty sluggish development, but it is generally truly worth it when you get to enjoy unspoiled views of the majestic Alaskan mountains, rivers and wildlife. Our vacation consisted of 9 days of mountaineering and 1 working day pack rafting to our pickup place. We had a last relaxation working day floating on one of the most picturesque lakes I’ve ever found.
